The Regional Council is composed of 43 councillors representing four different political groups. The Bureau, formed by the President and his vice-presidents, decides on the main outlines of regional policy and ensures their implementation.
The Regional councillors are elected for a period of 6 years by the system of direct universal suffrage according to departmental lists and proportional representation:
Doubs: 19 councillors
Jura: 10 councillors
Haute-Saône: 10 councillors
Territoire de Belfort: 4 councillors
The last regional election took place in March 2004.
