Travels through the wine region

Whether you are a wine-lover, an amateur of good food, simply curious or in guest of adventure, the Jura Wine Route winds among the vineyards and well beyond, leading us on to discover a unique local culture.

Moments rich in savour

To follow the wine-route is to undertake a journey to meet the men and woman who keep the traditions alive and produce wines with a very distinct personality. Nearly a 150 cellars are open to the visitor for the purpose of wine-tastings on which occasions the wine-growers are ready to talk about their metier and their attachment to the land which gave birth to it, thus creating moments of warmth and pleasures shared.

How about a stroll after the visit to the cellars?

Other than its vineyards, the wine-trail stretches over more than 80 kms. through small Comtois towns full of unexpected attractions such as museums, abbeys, craft-workshops and offering opportunities to further one's acquaintance with the gastronomic specialities, architecture and local products of the region. Those in search of more physical exertion will find the visits to grottoes, cross-country biking and hang-gliding to their taste.

The Comté cheese maturing cellar: a visit not to be missed

In order to discover the secret of this famous cheese, the visitor is invited to mount up to Fort Saint-Antoine near Lac Saint-Point at an altitude of 1100 metres. This fort, once a military shelter, is now a cheese-maturing cellar and houses around 65000 wheels of Comté, maintaining them in a cool damp atmosphere laden with the specific fruity aromas. The visit is followed by a cheese-tasting which is indeed the pleasantest way to learn about this cheese.
