Tristan Bernard
Tristan Bernard, writer and humorist (1866-1947)![]() Paul Bernard, otherwise known as Tristan Bernard, was born in Besançon on the 7th of September 1866 at N° 23 Grande Rue. After a brief career as lawyer in Paris he entered the world of business. In 1891 he collaborated on the well-known literary review La Revue Blanche and in this way discovered his vocation: Paul became Tristan, the writer, that is to say, the Tristan Bernard known for his stories and novels (Vous m’en direz tant, 1894) and his vaudeville-style plays (Les pieds Nickelés, 1895). A writer with a gift for caricature and a great wit, he was furthermore, one of the first to fill the columns of the satirical journal Le Canard Enchaîné, born in 1917. |
