A noise-free mode of locomotion

Unusual bicycle-routes can be found deep in the wilds of the Franche-Comté region. Two exceptional routes render this alternative way of visiting the country possible: the Eurovelo 6 and the Grande Traversée  the Jura high mountain crossing.

Following the course of the rivers

The Franche-Comté is situated along the European  cycle route linking Nantes to Budapest called Eurovelo 6. Between now and 2008 the region will be able to propose 250 kms. of uninterrupted bicycle routes and paths for the hardy biking tourist  to discover what the region has to offer in an alternative way. They will be able to take advantage of the "voies vertes" (green roads)… advancing along the Doubs river from Dole to Bâle which are separated from the traffic for up to 80% of their length before continuing their journey in the direction of Germany or Burgundy. Legendary trek

The marked-out journey known as the "Grande Traversée" or the Jura high mountain crossing is a 400 kms. long itinerary divided into 10 stages through a natural yet protected wilderness. To travel across the heights of these Swiss French mountains is an adventure from which one is sure to derive much pleasure and also encounter, with 114 places of accommodation and restaurants along the way. Anyone can take part and this out of the ordinary trip offers magnificent views and will be a memorable experience for the cyclists who undertake the trip. Parallel routes allow one to make a similar journey on foot, cross country skis or snow shoes according to the season, one's inclination and motivation!
