The Regional Council works to promote the economic, social and cultural development of the Franche-Comté. Having the authority and being specialized in the domains judged essential for the future of the region, its competencies are extending progressively.
Regional decision-making
The Regional Council is active in four principal domains :
- education, training and apprenticeship ;
- economic development and employment ;
- infrastructures and transport ;
- provincial planning.
In order to achieve its objectives it works in collaboration with partners: Departments, Communes, Representatives of the socio-professional world and that of associations. The Region also works in association with the State to promote the Franche-Comté projects of the future (TGV Rhin-Rhone, Agenda 21, TEMIScience…) as defined by the contract for State-Region projects 2007-2013.
Defining the future
Since August 2004, the sphere of action of the Region has been increased, enabling it to realize its ambitions more fully, principally in the areas of economic development and vocational training. These newly acquired responsibilities make for increased balance and harmonization, as the plans for regional development demonstrate. The increased freedom for manœuvre also benefits in the areas relating to health, transport and, yet again, culture. The Regional Council is thus fully implicated in the domains vital to furthering the development and increasing the attractiveness of Franche-Comté.
